FACE OFF

[Fade in. Jungle scenery. At the bottom of the left hand corner, white capital letters spell out “Idéa Jungle, Outside Rio Bazarino, Emazonda. 13:57”. Within the deep jungles outside the city of Rio Bazarino sits a small camp that is being used by the Import Liberators. Inside the bigger tent is Janet Luger, who is fuming mad after the events that have transpired over the last few weeks.]
Janet: I can’t stand those Rowans. Everytime we have a heist, they always have to get in the way! I should’ve listened to that wolf girl more closely. There must be a way of eliminating them completely from the picture.
[Janet starts to walk around the tent holding her chin, thinking of a way to get even with the Rowans. All of a sudden, an idea pops in her head.]
Janet: I have it. I’ll challenge them to a vehicle battle. No, not all of them. Just their four flunkies. The two in the big truck shouldn’t be allowed to battle my vehicles, but if they find someway to interfere, then, I’ll order my drivers to eliminate their flunkies once and for all! [Laughs.] Oh, I love the way my foul mind works. [Laughs.]
[Cut to outside tent. Camera zooms out of the jungles. Scratch to Perez, Emazonda, where the Rowans are getting their vehicles tuned courtesy of Kayla’s parents.]
Pike: I’m so glad Kayla’s parents offered to help us out with the tuning of our vehicles.
Kass: I guess they’re not as bad as I though they were.
Pike: What do you mean?
Kass: Well, I mean when they tried to take Kayla away from us.
Pike: Oh, that. Well, that was Kayla’s decision, you know. I think this is her parents’ way of saying, “We support you, no matter what you decide.”
Kass: I guess you’re right.
[Kayla and Yumi come out of the house and on to the patio. Yumi’s face and fur is covered in machine oil]
Kayla: The vehicles are almost ready, guys.
Yumi: I think you’ll like the adjustments we’ve made to them.
Pike: Adjustments? What adjustments?
Yumi: Trust me, Pike. You’ll thank us for this.
Kayla: Come to the garage!
[Kayla and Yumi head to the garage. The Rowans follow them. Fade to garage. Jin, Wes, Sage, and Kai are inside making final preparations on the vehicles. Their faces and fur are covered in machine oil.]
Wes: Look who came for the party.
Pike: Sorry we’re not all dressed for the occasion. So, what’s the big surprise?
Jin: Okay, let’s start with Kayla’s ORB. We’ve tweaked the engine a little bit so that it has more power. The Turbo Boost has also been supercharged to last longer, plus her acid bombs are now bigger and filled with a stronger substance.
Yumi: Now, on to Kai’s ATB. His Turbo Boost has also been supercharged, plus we’ve found a way to extend the range of his Repel Shield. We’ve also added a stabilizing mechanism for long falls.
Jin: Next, on Sage’s Mojave, the engine has been tuned to add extra power, and his vertical boost has been extended to a slightly higher altitude. We’ve also fitted his bombs with a manual detonator. Now on to Kass’ Speedwave, which is now faster than it used to be. The oil slick can be sprayed to cover a wider area than it could before, and her cloaking device lasts much longer.
Yumi: And finally, to Wes and Pike’s Grandall. We’ve fitted stronger alloy armored plating to the truck, along with larger bombs, and a cloaking device that can be activated and stay activated until you manually deactivate it.
Pike: Very impressive! I’ve got to give you props on this one.
Yumi: Anything to help our daughter’s team.
[Suddenly, the alarm on their COM Watches start to beep.]
Pike: Looks like we’ve got an emergency. Sorry, we can’t stay, but…
Jin: We know. Duty calls. Get going. The world needs you.
Yumi: Kayla, take care.
Kayla: I will, Mom.
[They all hop into their vehicles and prepare to depart the garage.]
Wes: Haven’t done this in a while.
Pike: Let’s see if they remember it.
Wes & Pike: Drivers Ready?
Kass: Alright! I’ve been waiting to do this again!
Rowans: Ready to Roll!
Wes & Pike: LET’S DO IT TO IT, ROWANS!
[One by one, the vehicles drive out of the garage. Jin and Yumi watch as they take off.]
Jin: Good luck, you guys.
Yumi: All the luck in the world.
[Fade out.]
[Rowan Adventures: The Smuggling Missions will return after these messages.]
[Two minute commercial break.]
[And now, back to Rowan Adventures: The Smuggling Missions.]
[Fade in. White capital letters spell out “Impaza Desert, Emazonda. 15:41”. The Rowans follow the signal to its origin. Upon arriving in the desert wastelands of Perez, Emazonda, the Rowans see a group of buggies lined up in a row, with Janet Luger’s Grandall in the middle.]
Sage: Hey, look ahead.
Kayla: It’s Luger and her goons. What are they smuggling now?
Kass: Nothing, it looks like. I can’t see anything in their buggies. Something really weird’s going on.
Kai: I say we check it out. They could be up to something.
Pike: Kai’s right. Let’s go!
[The Rowans drive up to the IL buggies. As they get within 800 feet of the buggies, the stop and get out of their vehicles.]
Janet: Greetings, Rowans. A pleasure to see all of you face-to-face for the first time.
Pike: So you’re the infamous Janet Luger we’ve been hearing so much about. Charmed to meet you, I think.
Janet: Ha ha! You flatter me, fox girl. Now, on to business. You’re probably wondering why we’re not carrying any packages today. That’s because today, it’s not our mission. Today, I want to challenge you to a battle of vehicles!
Wes: A battle of vehicles?
Janet: You heard me right. Your four flunkies against my supreme drivers.
Kass: Did you just call us flunkies?
Janet: What? Are you hard of hearing, moussie?
Kass: Oh, my hearing’s fine. Yours won’t be when I get through with you!
Sage: [Goes to hold Kass back.] Whoa, hold on, Kass. We’ll settle this by their game.
Janet: That’s what I wanted to hear. Oh, and one more thing. If you’re bosses think of interfering in any way, I shall personally make sure that you four do not drive another vehicle, ever. In other words, you four will die!
Kayla: WHAT?! THAT’S INSANE!
Pike: This isn’t right, Luger, and you know it!
Janet: All’s fair in love and death. You should know that by now. So, what’ll it be? Do you accept, or do you yield?
[The Rowans get in a huddle.]
Wes: What do you want to do?
Kass: We don’t want to lose our lives, but we want to take this battle. Wes, Pike, you have to promise us that you won’t help us.
Pike: Don’t worry, love. We have the utmost confidence in you all. We know you can do it!
Wes: Just remember to look out for each other. Work as a team, and you can win. Now go out there, and show them who the flunkies are!
Sage: You got it, boss!
[Kass, Sage, Kai, and Kayla board their vehicles.]
Janet: Are you ready, yet?
Kass: Let’s rumble!
Janet: Very well. Drivers, charge!
[Janet’s drivers, along with the Rowans, revved up their engines and charged each other. Each Rowan takes a different buggy and sticks with it. As soon as they come in closer range, they split off and take their driver one by one. They soon realize that the nature of these drivers is way different than from what they normally face off against. Sage does some head on attacks with his Mojave on one of the buggies, but the buggy comes back with attacks of his own, and nearly tears off a fender on the Mojave. Kass’ Speedwave is nearly tipped over by one of the buggies. As she goes to two wheels, she fights to retain control of her vehicle, and finally does.]
Kass: These guys play rough!
[Wes and Pike look on from the view of the Grandall.]
Wes: That’s not fair!
[Wes attempts to start the Grandall, but his paw is caught by Pike before it reaches the key.]
Pike: Wes, no! They have to do this on their own!
Wes: This isn’t fair, Pike! I’ve got to help them!
Pike: Did you forget the stipulation that was put on them? If we get involved in this, they could lose their lives! I know what Luger is doing isn’t fair, but we have to let our crew handle this. We’ve been there to bail them out of jams too many times. It’s time they stepped up to the plate and take control. I believe they can do it.
[Wes nods his head and takes his paw back. Wes looks back at the battle and watches as his teammates get pummeled by the Import Liberator drivers.]
Kai: Don’t these guys play by the rules, even once?
Sage: They’re scalawags, Kai. They don’t even know what a rulebook is!
[Over at Kass’ Speedwave, the back bumper is ripped off of the Speedwave by an IL driver. This infuriates Kass.]
Kass: THAT DOES IT!!! I’VE HAD IT!!!
Kayla: Kass?
Kass: Alright, guys, since these guys don’t want to play fair, we’ll just forget the rules!
Kai: Booya! That’s what I’m talking about!
Kayla: Let’s pulverize ‘em!
Sage: Head-on Collision! GO!!!
[With their new found spirit, the four Rowans charge head on towards the IL buggies, which were taken by surprise by the charge. Each Rowan took their opponent and battled with such anger and ruthless aggression. Wes is surprised by what he sees.]
Wes: Huh? What the heck’s gotten into them?
Pike: I think one of the drivers ticked Kass off when they took off her bumper, and we both know what happens when someone makes Kass mad like that…
Wes: Just like Kass, I guess.
[Back at the battle, the Rowans have managed to take out one of the buggies, leaving three left.]
Kass: New game plan, guys. We’ve got improved countermeasures. Let’s use ‘em!
Kai, Sage, & Kayla: Right!
[At another buggy, Sage launches his Vertical Boost to get over the buggy and drops a bomb right above it. Just to the right of it, Kayla sets up an acid pool, and to the left of it, Kass sets up an oil pool. The driver notices a bomb dropping from above and swerves to the left, running over the oil and sliding over near a large cactus tree. As the buggy hits the tree, it shatters into several pieces.
Kai: Two down, two to go!
[Kai speeds his ATB up to the next buggy then activates his Repel Shield to push the buggy into a bomb that was dropped by Sage.]
Sage: That’s it. Come to papa!
[As the buggy inches closer to the bomb, Sage detonates it and destroys the buggy with one shot.]
Sage: Yeah, baby! Ba-boom! Ha ha ha ha!
Kayla: Time to go after the last one.
[The driver of the last buggy was in a state of shock, as she witnessed her partners destroyed in an instant. She is now all alone as she watches the four Rowans creep up on her like a pack of hungry wolverines. Fade out.]
[Rowan Adventures: The Smuggling Missions will be back in a moment.]
[Two minute commercial break.]
[And now, back to Rowan Adventures: The Smuggling Missions.]
[Fade in. The driver of the final buggy stood watching from her ride the four Rowans crowding around her. She is scared senseless. After thinking it out...]
Female Driver: That’s it. I’m outta here!
[The driver turns her buggy around and tries to make a run for it.]
Kayla: Not so fast! C’mon, guys!
[Kayla speeds up to catch the buggy in its tracks, followed by Sage, Kai, and Kass. When Kayla and Kai reach the buggy, Kayla activates her Turbo Boost to get in front of the buggy and release her acid bombs. The driver notices the pool in front of her and swerves to the right to avoid it, but is cut off at the last minute by Kai and his Repel Shield, which pushes the buggy back in the path of the acid. The buggy then runs over the pool, which eats at the tires quicker than it did before.]
Kayla: Wow! That was fast!
[The driver is now on its metal wheel, but is still driving. The control of the buggy itself is very unstable thanks to the tires being destroyed, but matters get even worse, thanks to Kass’ oil slick. The oil on the metal rims causes the buggy to spin recklessly about the desert floor until it runs into the bomb that was placed by Sage. The buggy is now in pieces, but the driver is safe.]
Kass: That takes care of the flunkies, now it’s time to take out the leader!
[Over at Janet’s Grandall…]
Janet: They’ve destroyed my buggies and humiliated my crew! [Sighs.] If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.
[Janet reaches for the key to the ignition and turns it to start the Grandall. She then puts it in gear and starts off towards the four Rowans. Wes and Pike see her coming, then start their Grandall and charge Janet to cut her off.]
Pike: Back off!
Janet: I see we’ve forgotten our little agreement.
Pike: In case you haven’t noticed, the battle has ended, and our team won! How are they going to lose their lives, now?
Janet: [Pulls out her blaster.] You should always know when to have a back-up plan…
[All of a sudden, the blaster is snatched from her paw. It looks like the blaster is floating in mid air, until Kass deactivates her cloaking device.]
Kass: I don’t think you’ll be needing this.
Janet: Why you…
[Janet attempts to drive up to Kass, but her truck won’t move.]
Janet: What the…the blasted truck won’t move!
[Sage whistles to Janet. Janet looks over at Sage who is holding some cables in his paw.]
Sage: Hey, Luger? Lose something?
Janet: My cables!
[Sage gets back in his truck and drives up to Janet’s disabled Grandall, and plants a bomb right next to her, while Wes and Pike drop another bomb on the other side of her. They both drive away from the Grandall. Once at a safe distance, they detonate their bombs, destroying Janet Luger’s Grandall once and for all. The camera shifts over quickly to see Janet running for her life back towards the IL’s camp.
Kayla: Look, she’s hitting the bricks!
Pike: It’s okay, love. Let her. We’ll deal with her later. Let’s get back to your parents’ house so we can head back upwards.
Kayla: You got it. Follow me!
[Kayla leads the way for her teammates back to her parents’ house. Claw to IL camp. Janet is fuming mad after what happened.]
Janet: [Screams.] My drivers arrested, my buggies destroyed, and even worse, my truck destroyed! I swear I’ll make those Rowans pay for this insult. I’ll make sure of it.
[Her laptop starts to beep. She goes over to check it out.]
Janet: Hmm. New mail. Let me see…some merchandise needs to make its way to Oudecca, Kaitiwana, and it must make it there by sea. Perfect. This is the perfect opportunity to test our new submarine. Mandy!?
[A young female chipmunk approaches Janet.]
Mandy: Yes, Janet?
Janet: Tell our men to get the submarine ready. We have a mission to prepare for.
Mandy: Right away.
[Mandy leaves the tent.]
Janet: We may have been beaten this time, but next time won’t be so different. We’ll have the element of surprise on our paws, and victory will be ours. [Chuckles.]
[Cut to outside Janet’s tent. As Janet chuckles evilly, the camera zooms out. Slash to Rowans’ campsite. The Rowans are busy making repairs to their vehicles.]
Kass: That battle took a lot out of the Speedwave than I thought. Did I really go off the deep end?
Pike: [Chuckles lightly.] Sometimes, I’m amazed that you don’t even notice yourself, Kass. I mean, you, of all beasts, have a short temper that can hardly be controlled. Don’t worry. It did you well, this time around.
Kass: Sometimes I even scare myself.
[Sage comes out of the tent.]
Sage: Hey, guys, I just got a message from President Konnell. The modifications we made on the Blue Nautilus are finished!
Pike: Great! It’s about time! I’ve been waiting for that for a while. When do we get to test it? Do you know?
Sage: President Konnell said whenever we get the chance.
Pike: Okay, we’ll try it sometime next week, then. Where is that brother of mine?
Kass: Good question? Where is Wes?
Pike: I sent him and Kayla to go get us some food. I don’t have my cooking equipment down here, do I can’t cook anything myself.
Kass: Oh…
Sage: Shouldn’t they have been back by now?
Pike: That’s exactly what I’m thinking, love.
[Just then, Wes and Kayla drive up to the campsite.]
Pike: There they are now!
[Wes and Kayla step out of the Grandall. They are each holding two boxes of pizza in their paws.]
Kass: Mmm, something smells good…
Wes: Hey, guys, pizza’s on!
Pike: Alright, I’m starved. [Takes a slice of pizzas and takes one bite.] Hey, what the blazes’ on this stuff?
Kayla: Just the regular stuff. [Counts her fingers.] Flies, stinkbugs, spider webs, snails, tadpole tails, you know, the works.
[Pike’s face starts to turn a pale blue. She begins to hold her mouth as if she were about to throw up. Kayla starts to laugh.]
Kayla: Gotcha!
[Everyone breaks out laughing.]
Pike: Very funny, guys! Very funny!
Wes: Thanks, Kayla, we needed that! [Laughs.]
[Pike continues to eat as the others continue laughing. Fade out.]
